The Washington Post Video on OT and such

You guys saw the newspaper clip about myself and SGT Bernardo.  Great stuff....but....I think this one is even better.  This is some of the video that they filmed of us doing "OT" type things.  SGT Bernardo can actually define OT a lot better than some of my fellow OTs out there.  Check it out.  A great watch.

American University Radio Interview

Another good piece on what we do here at Walter Reed in the Amputee Center from American University Radio.  The bit was done in October, but still pretty good.

Great Bit on Army OT and Me

So I had the incredible opportunity to sit for several hours with a writer from the Washington Post over the past several weeks.  The story goes that the reporter from the Post was supposed to spend an hour or so with me to understand OT better and to do a bit on it.  Well, after spending the hour with me and SGT Bernardo, he wanted to do a much larger piece on us.  He asked to be able to return a couple of times, so he ended up coming back several sessions.  One in the clinic, one in our ADL (Activities of Daily Living) apartment where I was doing a cooking class with Bernardo (Pancakes and Bacon), one doing a Golf treatment session outside, and one in a community re-integration setting where we went to Target.  Anyway, the story ended up being featured on the Front Page of the Washington Post on Christmas.  It was pretty cool.  The pic on the front is actually a funny moment because SGT Bernardo and had an impromptu wrestling match in the hallway.  He started beating me, so I had no choice but to rip his arm off.  Hahaha.  Anyway, check out the article.  I think you'll enjoy it.  Here's the link to it:

OT at it's finest!

OK Blogger Friends. Here's the deal. You know that as OTs, we strive to help our patients engage in purposeful activity and things they love. This has got to be one of the most amazing events that I've ever done. I've got a group of Patients up here in NYC today that will be performing with Pink Floyd at the Beacon Theater. Other guests will be Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Us, Max Weinberg Big Band, and comedy acts by Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, and Jon Stewart. Show is sold out, but you can watch it streaming at Tell your friends! Here's a picture of our band!

Like Riding a bike

I Guess I should get some of my youtube on here.  Let me introduce you to one of my patients and now good friend, Josh Wetzel.  One of the best days we have with our guys are the days that they walk for the first time.  I started making short films about some of the awesome things my guys do.  I think you'll like them.  Enjoy......

The Olympics

Hey Guys,

Sorry I've been vacant from the page for a bit.  Turns out, I'm incredibly busy......all the time.  Hahaha.  Anyway, I've got a little time in the next few days, so I'm going to try and get some good stuff out there.

First things first......the olympics.  I actually love this time of year....or every four years because all of the US can agree about something and be excited about it.  There's just nothing like the feeling when people who represent your nation win the gold.  It's just awesome.  Better than that is this:

USA Paralympics! Gotta watch!

Digital Resumes

I recently happened upon this "Digital Resume" website.  It's pretty awesome.  I'm not done with mine yet, but in the age of digital awesomeness, this may be the next big thing.  The resume site I recommend is  Here's a quick pic of what my digital resume looks like:

iPad Apps You Should Have

I had a bunch of requests for me to share my iPad apps.  As many of you know, I use my iPad and iPhone for a ton of stuff in my evaluation and treatment planning.  So, caving in to the peer pressure, here's some screen shots of the medical apps that I use.  If you have specific questions about a specific app, let me know.  I can give you some good insite on what will work best for you in your specific practice setting.  I'll feature some of my most used apps in weeks to come.

This is my main Screen
These are my main Medical Apps that I use.  They're all great.

I use a lot of these for mTBI stuff.  Or just for fun.

These are the main ones I use for TBI specific things

And these are pretty much for mTBI specific games.

Grabbit while it's hot...

Just got this for my iPad.  Definitely recommend you get one if you plan on using it for treatment or evaluation....or presentations.  I've been using my iPad for a ton of things recently and have struggled with a good way to hold the thing.  Anyway, I did a bunch of research on different types of handles and such.  I just think this one is the way to go.

Captains Career Course

Before you get to pin on Major, you have to go to some mandatory training in San Antonio to learn basically nothing about occupational therapy or my current job. They design the class around medical admin jobs and people who are potentially going to be company commanders and such. All that said, we're in a portion of the class where we plan the execution of a war scenario. Translation.....boooooring useless information. Good times! See how much fun this looks!

So I'm down in San Antonio for a couple months for some Army training. We went down to the river walk for some lunch when I happened upon this beauty. Nacho Libre is one of my all time favorite movies. Pretty much the best purchase of the last year!
